The single-vineyard Ivywood Chardonnay is grown on a picturesque family farm in the coastal far-reaches of the Russian River Valley. Situated along a ridgeline above the village of Occidental, it is heavily influenced by coastal winds and fog. With a scant 1.5 acres of Chardonnay planted here, this is an exclusive wine.
The Sun Chardonnay is the golden counterpart to our Pinot Noir Barrel Selections. It is crafted from the best Chardonnay barrels of the vintage, with an emphasis on grapes from the Green Valley sub-appellation. Here, the long growing season allows for a drawn-out ripening process, resulting in small clusters with bright, fresh, complex character.
With aromatics of apple cinnamon cider, Madagascar vanilla, and peach cobbler, the 2016 Cresta Ridge Single Vineyard is Green Valley at its finest. This wine is so inviting - The palate is caramel, spice, sweet fruit, and texture. The finish offers notes of vanilla bean and pear tart. Beautiful balance and poise.
Less than 15 mi from the Pacific Ocean as the crow flies, the Ivywood vineyard is heavily influenced by the same natural forces that influence our Northern California coastline. The vineyard sits at 800 ft, with multiple row aspects, creating complexity and character. Due to its proximity to the coast, the vines struggle every year to ripen, and as a result, waiting for the right time to pick can be quite painful! That being said, our patience is almost always rewarded, and although the Chardonnay is always one of our last picks of the year, its always one of our most interesting wines.
The single-vineyard Knowlton Farms Chardonnay is organically grown on a beautiful farm in the sought-after Green Valley region, a Russian River sub-appellation in western Sonoma County. Here, fog drifts across Gold Ridge soil, a fine sandy loam that is the remains of an ancient inland sea.
A rare white wine in our Celestial Lineup, the Sun is a blend of Chardonnay vineyards throughout our most favorite region in the Russian River Valley, the Green Valley. Climate here is defined by the fog, blowing East through the Petaluma Gap and eventually settling in the Valley. This creates cool mornings, but burning off and giving way to sunshine in the afternoon. A diurnal dance that keeps acid pretty and flavors delicious.
Svengali Syrah is a labor of love. A highly finessed barrel aging program results in a smooth, decadent wine. The unsung hero (varietally speaking), Syrah has the structure of a great cabernet and bright fruit of a zinfandel, swirled into one and embellished with meatiness and texture.
Crafting the Earth is always a lesson in hedonism. Common knowledge dictates Pinot Noir live in the cooler climates off the coast, with the influence of the Ocean dominating its terroir. We generally respect that dogma, but for this particular blend we thought it would be interesting to do things a little bit differently. So a hypothesis was created: How does meticulously farmed Pinot Noir grow in slightly less cool climates, particularly the more eastern portions of the Russian River?
Such as the moon is influenced by its proximity to the earth and the stars, our Moon Pinot Noir blend is blissfully lost somewhere between the Sonoma Coast and the more inland areas of the Appellation. To achieve this stylistically, we merry floral and earth elements with fruit and tannin. The result is quite sexy, with racy acidity and layered complexity. Chocolate, raspberry, and cinnamon fill the aromatics. The palate flavors move seamlessly, with an abundance of dark, juicy fruits and clove. The finish is surprising in its length…and is possibly the most intriguing piece of the entire experience.
San Remo is always one of our first vineyards in the barn. There is no well on the property, so the vines must fight and struggle. The setting crop is always light, and this wine almost always has powerful tannins due to the afternoon sun, forcing the grape skins to grow strong and durable. If you're patient enough to wait and let the skins soften, the resulting wine has fabulously soft, but powerful tannin expression.
The 2017 Stars blend is our attempt to create a wine representative of the Western part of the Russian River Valley. A blend of 4 unique vineyards and 11 unique blocks, this wine is hold a delightfully acidic backdrop, due in part to cool air moving east from the ocean, keeping the early mornings and evenings chilled. The nose is toasty oak, dark cherry and rose petals. Its medium bodied and a pleasantly structured. Cherry tart and vanilla finish the palate.
Aromas of lemongrass, citrus rind, star jasmine, gardenia and rosemary mingle in the glass. The palate is met with intense tropical flavors melded perfectly with bright citrus notes. Flavors of pineapple, honey dew, papaya, pink lady apples and kiwi lead the palate. A crisp acidity leads to a clean, refreshing finish.
