Under New Ownership

About Born out of a passion for Pinot Noir.

VML was born out of a passion to make world-class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.  Leveraging years’ long relationships with growers throughout western Sonoma County, VML’s focus has always been on the Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast appellations and features single-vineyard Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from regenerative and organic vineyards.

Introducing the brand within the Truett Hurst portfolio of wines, the  2009 vintage showcased a Pinot Noir from the Sonoma Coast’s Boudreaux Vineyard, and the Russian River Valley’s Ivywood Vineyard that is still under contract today.

The label art has always captured our customers’ imagination and artistically represents the beauty, creativity, and mystery of the Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast that we strive to express in our winemaking.  The very first label- a steampunk Albrecht Durer mashup still in use today- conceptualizes winemaking as sorcery, with a magic circle filled with undulating initiates chanting incantations while surrounded by all manner of insects, flowers, and astrological references.  In an homage to the etheric forces at work in the vineyard, the label states: “At equinox fall they planted the first seed and left it in the hands of the moon and the stars.”

Today the Tasting Room is nestled in the Truett Hurst estate, and guests can enjoy a stroll through the Biodynamic gardens along the shores of Dry Creek.  While we don’t host seances under the full moon, or have wild dances with secret societies, we do passionately embrace the mysteries that surround us.  The ethereal beckons…. We hope you answer the call.
