Svengali Syrah is a labor of love that highlights Virginia's mastery of her craft. (The clever label highlights that of her husband, designer Kevin Shaw.) A highly finessed barrel aging program results in a smooth, decadent wine. Says winemaker Virginia, "Syrah is the unsung hero. Structure of a great cab, bright fruit of a zin, swirled into one and embellished with meatiness and texture."
The 2015 offers a beautiful fuchsia color with aromatics of rhubarb, vanilla, raspberry, hickory, and iron-scented minerality. The palate yields the gifts of thin, rocky soil: rich blackberry, chocolate, white pepper, espresso. Poised tannins. Best opened after June 2017.
